Store your secret seed phrase
Your secret seed phrase is a randomly generated set of 12 words listed in order from 1 to 12. You’ll store these words (in order from 1 to 12) by writing them down and storing them somewhere safe (such as a safe or a safe deposit box). Rumble Wallet also provides the option for storing your seed phrase encrypted to the cloud.
You'll be presented with options to:
- Store you seed phrase securely in the cloud
- Pros: easy recovery from a secure cloud backup
- Cons: some people prefer to store their seed phrase offline to ensure security
- View and write down your seed phrase manually (not in the cloud)
- Pros: ensures your seed phrase can never be accessed online
- Cons: you cannot save your seed phrase to the cloud after setup
If you choose to store your seed phrase in the cloud, you can also view your seed phrase in the app after setup (go to Profile > Security > Reveal Seed Phrase)
If you choose to mannually write down the seed phrase:
- Your seed phrase will be displayed on the screen for you to write down and store.
- Store your seed phrase offline and somewhere physically safe.
- You can also view your seed phrase in the app after setup (go to Profile > Security > Reveal Seed Phrase)
- Treat your seed phrase like any other private, secret information such as Social Security Number, passport, password, or any other personally identifiable information.
You can only store your seed phrase in the cloud at wallet setup. You won't have the option after you've initialized your wallet.
Which method do I use?
- Storing in cloud is inherently less secure but more convenient
- Storing offline (written down) is the most secure method but less convenient
Here’s an example seed phrase:
dog tricycle door anvil balloon violet cylinder square network bench squirrel surprise
After you have confirmed that you’ve stored your seed phrase, your wallet will be initialized, set up, and ready to use.
- Do not share your seed phrase.
- Anyone with access to your seed phrase will have access to the contents of your wallet.
- Because you are the sole custodian of your wallet, you need to ensure that only you have access to the seed phrase.
- If you lose your seed phrase, you risk losing access to your wallet and its funds.
- Do not store your seed phrase unencrypted as text on your phone or computer.
- When working with your seed phrase, treat it as if you’re using an ATM in public, where anyone could potentially look over your shoulder to see it.
- Rumble staff will never ask for your seed phrase. Be careful against phishing and fraud attempts to gain access to it.
